SJ Mercury: Corel scores market win on Microsoft ruling

“The things that Microsoft did, in terms of precluding the
competition from important accounts, one way or another it looks
like they are going to be told that can’t be done in the future.
And that’s got to be positive for the competition including
Corel,” said Jean W. Orr, analyst at Bluestone Capital Partners in
New York.”

If Microsoft is not going to be allowed to do everything
the way it’s done it in the past, then perhaps competition — even
for operating systems — is going to be more open. And that brings
to mind Linux.

“As it readies to launch its new Linux desktop computer system
at the Comdex computer show in Las Vegas next week, Corel’s
development efforts are gaining market favor.”
