“Today, Scott McNealy, Sun’s CEO, announced the early release of
Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition (J2SE). Sun hasn’t done it on
their own. Inprise Corp.–the company formerly known as
Borland–did yeoman work on the Linux J2SE….”
“Inprise also will be making both J2SE and the Just-In-Time
(JIT) part of their multiple OS rapid application development (RAD)
package, Jbuilder, in the first quarter of next year. This version
of JBuilder also will be one of the first important RAD, of any
sort, for Linux.”
“At that time, Sun also will be released the source code for
J2SE under the Sun Community Source License (SCSL). Besides the
J2SE code proper, McNealy also announced that the code for its JIT
Java Compiler also will be released under the SCSL.“
