Sunday Times: Linux wins backing of computing giants

“THERE were a lot of stuffed penguins in Hannover this month.
The event was that gigantic European techfest, Cebit, and the
penguins were the logo of Linux, the operating system (OS) that
will one day, if you believe some of the hype, reduce Bill Gates to
panhandling outside Seattle’s Space Needle.”

“Linux has now been given the seal of approval from Intel, IBM
and Dell, among others. If it starts to win a significant share of
the desktop market – not the server scene where its growth is
currently most apparent – I would not be surprised to see Microsoft
port Office over to penguin power.”

“So let us pause for a reality check. Is the world really
changing that quickly? Is Windows really doomed?”
