Informix and SAP have announced that they are working together
to deliver a Linux-based R/3 solution running on Informix Dynamic
Server. The announcement came at this year’s CeBIT show in Hannover
Germany. Over the last 9 months most vendors have announced support
for, or delivered product on Linux — this is one of the first
examples of two major software vendors collaborating on a Linux
solution. This new level of collaboration between major vendors on
Linux solutions will ultimately make Linux a more powerful
alternative to NT.
Now that Informix has delivered multiple database products on
Linux as well as a number of tool products the company has moved
into the partnering and channel solutions section of its Linux
program. The partnership with SAP, along with recent alliances with
HP, Red Hat, SuSE and Jones Business Systems demonstrate Informix’s
commitment to the Linux environment.

For Linux —
CeBIT, Hannover — March 18, 1999 — Informix® Corporation
(NASDAQ: IFMX), the technology leader in enterprise
database-powered solutions and award winning Linux vendor, today
announced joint efforts within the SAP initiative to deliver SAP
R/3 on Linux. The partnership will have SAP’s R/3 fully supported
on Informix Dynamic Server, Linux Edition Suite and available to
mutual customers.
“Informix helped to spark the Linux revolution in the enterprise
several months ago when we launched the first commercial database
for Linux,” said Bob Finocchio, chairman and CEO of Informix.
“Today, through our joint efforts with SAP, Linux becomes even more
mainstream and reaches a new level in supporting mission-critical
business operations.”
SAP expects to release R/3 on Linux in the third quarter of
1999. Once general availability is announced, an SAP R/3 and
Informix Dynamic Server, Linux Edition Suite bundle will be
available through traditional SAP distribution channels.
“The demand for R/3 on Linux has been impressive, easily
exceeding our expectations,” stated Horst-Udo Schulte, director
corporate alliance Informix at SAP AG. “Because high performance
databases like Informix Dynamic Server are already commercially
available for development, we are able to deliver our products on
Linux very quickly. We believe the combination of SAP and Informix
on Linux makes a very attractive enterprise solution.”
Informix was the first major database vendor to deliver product
on Linux. International distribution of Informix products on Linux
has exceeded expectations with more than 175,000 copies of Informix
databases on Linux distributed over the last six months.
“Informix has been ahead of the Linux curve for some time now,”
said Janet Smith, director of product marketing and management at
Informix. “Because the Informix databases and tools have been
available for months, we’re able to move past the product delivery
phase and concentrate on developing multiple channel and software
partnerships. The relationship with SAP is one of our most
significant partnerships.”
