TechWeb: Intel’s Chairman Shows Off Linux On Merced

“Intel said it plans to make Merced servers available on the Web
for Linux developers, part of the company’s efforts to woo the
Linux faithful to the IA-64 architecture.”

“Intel senior vice president Sean Maloney announced the service
during the morning keynote speech at LinuxWorld, in San Jose,
Calif., Tuesday. Intel chairman Andy Grove also made an appearance
to deliver a status report on the Merced microprocessor…”

“Intel also will host Linux code testing for some developers at
its Applications Service Centers, Maloney said. He also said
Intel’s IA-64 venture-capital fund is 90 percent untapped, and
encouraged developers to try their hand at adding the more advanced
features — parallel processing in particular — to their Linux
applications.”
