“A special guest appearance by Linus Torvalds at Lotus
Development’s Developer’s Conference ’99 in San Francisco next week
marks an about face in the vendor’s platform-support strategy.”

“Cliff Reeves, Lotus vice president of communications product
development will deliver the opening keynote from the conference.
But Reeves also will share the stage with Torvalds, the technical
ingenue that fostered development of the Linux open source code
operating system.”

“At Lotusphere ’99 last January, Lotus declared Linux support
for Notes/Domino, an abrupt turnabout, but good news to users
disappointed to hear that R5 would not ship as expected. Just three
months earlier in October Reeves ruled Linux support out of the
question due to a lack of demand.”
