“S3 on Thursday announced plans to work with start-up Transmeta
to build Internet appliances based on the Crusoe
microprocessor.”

“The move comes one day after Transmeta presented details about
its Crusoe processor, which the company said is capable of
translating Intel’s x86 instructions into native code for
dramatically improved battery life and system speeds.”

S3 said it will collaborate with Santa Clara, Calif.-based
Transmeta to target x86-compatible consumer systems based on Linux
software for the Internet.
Transmeta officials said they are
impressed with S3’s plans.”
