The Detroit News: Norwegian Appeals Court Orders Retrial in DVD Copying Case

“A Norwegian teenager acquitted of breaking data-protection laws
when he developed software that allows the copying of digital video
discs will be tried again, a Norwegian appeals court ordered.

“Jon Johansen, 19, will be retried next February before the
Borgarting appeals court, according to his attorneys. In January, a
three-judge panel cleared him of all charges and ruled that people
who try to watch DVDs on their own computers do not violate
copyright or anti-hacking laws since it’s their property.
