“Plasmoids provide a powerful platform to build up the
KDE desktop, but making a custom Plasmoid does require quite a bit
of time and skill. The good news is that it is easy to build a
Plasmoid that will display a web page, which allows you to take
advantage of any existing web based gadgets.“What do you use your desktop for? For 99% of people, the
desktop is really just a program launcher, storage location, and
maybe a picture viewer. I find it amazing that this screen that
millions of people look at every day has not been more effectively
utilized. I often wish that I could customize my desktop in the
same way that I can customize my iGoogle homepage. It would be
great to be able to quickly glance at my inbox, see a weather
forecast, review my task list and browse todays Dilbert comic.“The good news is that this is possible with only a few lines of
code thanks to the Plasma WebView control. This control allows you
to easily display either a specified URL or custom HTML inside a
KDE Plasmoid.”
