Proprietary software abridges those freedoms.

“Stallman’s GNU project helped spark a Finnish college student,
Linus Torvalds, to create a crucial piece, the crucial component,
of what is now called the Linux operating system. Stallman calls it
GNU/Linux. He has a point…”
