tablet devices. A lot of rhetoric has been spun about how Android’s
open source ecosystem gives manufacturers and consumers an
advantage.

“Android is open source; it can be liberally extended to
incorporate new cutting edge technologies as they emerge. The
platform will continue to evolve as the developer community works
together to build innovative mobile applications. (Open Handset

“Unfortunately, the current crop of Android tablets aren’t
nurturing open source at all.

“With the exception of Barnes & Noble’s Nook e-reader, a
device that isn’t even really a tablet, I couldn’t find a single
tablet manufacturer who was complying with the minimum of their
legal open source requirements under GNU GPL.”
