“Take the licensing issue. I’ve been handling licensing matters
for Fedora for at least a year now (maybe longer), and admittedly,
the new GPL v3 makes things much more complicated (look at this
chart if you don’t believe me: Chart of Doom). FESCo brought up the
issue that license tags in packages were not standardized (they
were not), and that this was making it very difficult to track when
packages were being linked to each other incorrectly. Since this is
a packaging issue, I helped get it into the Fedora Packaging
Committee as an action item, and volunteered to draft how to handle
this (since I’d already started building a set of License tables on
the wiki).“I’d painstakingly built a registry of every license that has
ever been approved for use in Fedora, along with every license that
anyone has ever asked to use in Fedora, and then gave them all
short names (that don’t conflict)…”
this is a rant. i know it is a rant. i need to get it off my chest.
