“Cooledit is an advanced editor for X11, but this one
program also comes with much more than text processing
capabilities. The other software included is an Desktop Icon
manager, a cut down version of Cooledit, a file tree browser, a man
page browser, an enhanced xmessage, a project editor, and a few
other programs which one might find useful.”

“The main program is an extensive general purpose and
programmers editor. It supports syntax highlighting, spell
checking, and multiple windows. It can serve as an Integrated
Development Environment for your latest OpenSource project and
supports multiple windows through a desktop management system. If
you are working on some Perl code, typing a novel, working on
debugging some code the latest Mozilla build, and keeping a grocery
list all you need to do before you leave the editor to take up
where you left off with all these documents is save the desktop
before leaving the editor. There is also a menu which comes with a
ton of pre-programmed scripts which you can edit and add to for
quick launching of tools, applications, terminals, the printer
daemon, and just about anything you can think of.”

“…advanced editing is not all you get with this program, you
also get a program called Coolicon. For those of you using a window
manager instead of a desktop environment like GNOME and KDE you
will like Coolicon. It allows you to create big pretty icons on
your screen which allow you to quickly launch programs from the
desktop without launching a file manager which may take up more
memory that you want.”
