components shield developers from the complexities of the
underlying technology, enabling them to focus on the business
components and processes that make up the heart of their
applications.

Microsoft Windows 95/98/NT and all leading UNIX server
platforms. Client support includes leading Web browsers
running HTML or Java, and standard desktop applications. Unify

About Unify DataServer and DataServer ELS for
Linux
Unify DataServer is a family of database management products
that are designed to scale from small systems to large high volume
on-line transaction processing (OLTP) systems. The products
are designed so that the growth of user requirements over time can
be quickly accommodated.
Unify DataServer contains several features found only in the
most advanced database systems including on-line backup,
synchronous and asynchronous disk transfers, stored procedures, and
multiple-optimized access methods (direct key, hashing,
record-to-record links, and b-tree). Its scaleable
architecture is highly effective on both single and multi-processor
platforms in small departmental systems or large on-line
transaction systems.
At the entry level, Unify DataServer ELS is designed to be a
high performance, easy-to-use product with minimal maintenance and
memory requirements. When used with Unify VISION, Unify
DataServer ELS allows developers to create graphical applications
and migrate existing ACCELL IDS applications to client/server as
needed.
Unify DataServer supports ANSI SQL standard and an industry
standard ODBC/JDBC interface to provide a variety of database
access methods that deliver high performance across a wide variety
of environments and deployment configurations. Unify
DataServer products support all major UNIX platforms and
client/server networking environments.
About Unify DBIntegrator for Linux
Unify DBIntegrator is an ODBC and JDBC-based connectivity
solution enabling a user’s personal computer to access
company business critical information stored in Unify DataServer.
Unify DBIntegrator creates the necessary interface between the
client’s PC and the corporate database by providing a
server-based data access solution featuring a thin client/server
architecture with flexible deployment and superior connectivity to
all Unify DataServer databases. The multi-tiered structure
provides a universal desktop ODBC and JDBC client that communicates
over LAN, WAN, or the Internet.
In using Unify DBIntegrator, standard Microsoft Windows
applications, as well as custom applications developed with tools
such as Microsoft Visual Basic, Sybase PowerBuilder, and Inprise
Delphi, have access to the business-critical information stored in
Unify DataServer databases. Through DBIntegrator’s JDBC
driver, customer applications and web sites built with Java-based
products such as Microsoft J++ and Symantec Visual Café,
gain high-performance access to the data as well.
About ACCELL/SQL and ACCELL IDS for
Linux
The Unify ACCELL/SQL toolset combines with native interfaces to
all popular server databases to bring dramatic productivity and
performance advantages to the application development
process. Developers gain the benefits of flexible,
easy-to-use tools and an ANSI standard, SQL-compliant database
interface—with power to deliver even the most complex,
mission-critical applications.
The Unify ACCELL Integrated Development System (IDS) brings the
power of ACCELL to Unify’s small foot-print, high performance
database, Unify DataServer ELS. By utilizing the power of
ACCELL with the world’s fastest embedded database, Linux
application solution providers can meet the performance,
time-to-market, and price-point their customers demand.
About Linux
According to IDC Research, Linux was the fastest-growing server
operating environment in 1998, capturing more than 17 percent of
all server operating system shipments. More than an estimated
10 million users currently run the Linux operating system.
Linux is the cooperatively developed POSIX-oriented, multi-user,
multi-tasking operating system used worldwide. Linux is
strongly differentiated from virtually all other operating systems
because it is “open source” software, with the source
code freely available to all users. Red Hat Linux is
maintained by the guidelines of the Linux General Public License
(GPL) as a “freely distributable” software available
from many sites on the Internet.
