“Linux is getting so corporate… …that you old freeware
hackers had best start wearing suits. Not the ones your parents
bought you at high-school graduation, either.”

“You’re gonna need one of those fancy Armani numbers Sun’s new
president Ed Zander likes so much, or maybe, one of the humbler
Brooks Brothers suits Hewlett-Packard’s outgoing CEO Lew Platt
favors. The boys in the boardroom have become utterly smitten with
Linux. HP’s Software Services Division is so besotted with the
open-source OS phenom that it has unveiled head-to-toe coverage of
Linux that had heretofore only been fashionable for HP-UX, MPE, and
Windows NT. Next month, HP will begin 24×7 service for its
customers that have any Linux distribution on any hardware
platform. It will guarantee a two-hour response time and give IT
users unlimited phone or e-mail support. Expect this fashion to
catch on quickly.”
