Software Configuration Management (SCM)

SCM Authority Susan Dart to Give Keynote at Perforce Software’s
1999 User Conference

MAY 18, 1999 – Alameda, Calif. Perforce Software today announced
that Susan Dart, president of Dart Technology Strategies, Inc.,
will give the keynote address at the company’s second annual User
Conference to be held June 2-4, 1999 in Berkeley, Calif. The
conference will bring together users of the Perforce Software
Configuration Management (SCM) System to share experiences and
discuss new SCM developments. Perforce is an SCM system that helps
software development teams efficiently manage large, complex
development projects across multiple operating system platforms.
Ms. Dart, a 23-year veteran of software development and management,
runs an independent consulting firm that helps companies achieve
process improvement via the adoption of technology. More
information is available online at http://www.perforce.com/perforce/conference.html.

Web Maintenance is a Perfect Target for
SCM
Dart’s talk, titled Content Change Management: Problems for Web
Systems, will focus on the application of SCM principles to the
management of Web sites and applications. As Web sites become more
like complex, dynamic applications and less like static collections
of documents, the need increases for tools to manage the evolution
of those sites. SCM tools, which already represent the concepts of
version control, change management, and multiple contributors are a
natural next step for companies that are serious about managing Web
site content and updates.

Additional conference sessions will focus on specific aspects of
Web maintenance using Perforce. The firm also will preview its new
Java graphical user interface, which enables developers to access
perforce functions through any Java-enabled program on any
platform. More information about the conference is available at
http://www.perforce.com/perforce/conference.html.
