“MIMOS Bhd which recently launched the Asian Open Source Centre,
an Asia-wide information hub for the development of open source
software, is confident that the centre would produce more
home-grown pool of software developers and in the process, save
billions of dollars for Asia.

“As indigenous softwares become commonplace in the region,
billions of dollars could be saved in licensing fees, it said in a
statement here Thursday.

“The widespread adoption of open source software would create a
pool of developers who could localise software, create local
content and bridge the digital divide, MIMOS president and chief
executive officer Tengku Azzman Shariffadeen said in the
statement…”
