Vallejo News: Three Days of the Desktop–Part 2

“Last time, I asked: ‘Could a Linux OS be installed on a typical
home PC and still provide the functionality and support that we
take for granted with Windows?’ Using Lycoris Desktop/LX, a
Linux-based operating system, and a Compaq 9110, I put together an
alternative PC experience and presented it to my test users. The
results were mixed.

“Out of the box, Desktop/LX was easy to set up, but still
required some Linux experience in order to get all of the hardware
working properly. For those new to Linux, the Lycoris Community Web
site has an enormous amount of information, tips and tutorials, and
was extremely helpful in getting back on track when a piece of
hardware wasn’t cooperating…”
