“Open source developers last week declared the latest revision
of the K Desktop Environment (KDE), a Windows-like interface for
Linux, ready for the masses, as the free operating system (OS)
inches toward the desktop.

“The KDE developer team says 1.1.1 is more stable, has improved
Internet connectivity, integration with korganizer, a schedule and
calendar program, and kpilot, a 3Com Corp. Palm-pilot
synchronization tool.”

“As the GUI battle is fought and Linux-philes pine for
applications, some VARs still aren’t sensing a strong demand for
Linux on the desktop.”
