VMWare has released a version capable of operating with Linux
2.4.

From the “What’s New” file:

  • Support for host systems with Linux 2.4 kernels, including
    • Support for Red Hat 7.1, SuSE 7.1 and Mandrake 8.0
      distributions
  • Detection of new floppy disk inserted in drive
  • Support for virtual machines with guest operating systems that
    use Linux 2.4 kernels
    • Support for Red Hat 7.1. and SuSE 7.1 distributions
Note: Kernel 2.4.3 does not run as a guest because of a bug that
has been fixed in kernel 2.4.4.
  • Pentium 4 support
  • Fixes for two issues — misdetection of the clock rate and
problem that generated a pop-up message referring to unhandled
    feature bits
