Jeremy Nickolet has installed and configured VMWare. Happy with
software, unhappy with price.
“VMware has released a beta version of their virtual machine
software for free download. I tried it out and it works exactly as
promissed! This software lets you install and run another OS (any
x86 OS) on top of Linux just as you would run another application.
I installed MS DOS 6.22 and MS Windows for Work Groups 3.11.
Everything worked very nicely.”
“You must register to get a free time limited license for the
beta version of VMware. The license will expire after 30 days,
where you can go back to their home page and get a new demo
license. When the 1.0 public release is available you can purchase
a license for $300 US that won’t ever expire. Students and bulk
orders will be able to get a discount.”
“$300 is too much, considering that you will still need to own
Windows 9x if you want to install it.”
