“Novell plans to port its flagship Novell Directory Services
(NDS) to Compaq’s Tru64 Unix variant, striking a blow to
Microsoft’s proposed NDS killer, Active Directory.

To make matters worse for the software giant, Enrico Pesatori,
senior vice president and group general manager of Compaq’s
enterprise solutions and services group, said NDS would become
the ‘strategic’ directory for the former Digital Equipment
operating system
(OS). It is due to ship in the first half
of next year.”

“NDS for Tru64 Unix will manage services running across a range
of other OSs, including Microsoft’s Windows NT, Linux and Novell’s
Netware network OS.”
