VNU Net: IDC Forum: Linux to storm to number two slot by 2001

Linux will become the second most popular operating system
for servers in the next two years, according to analyst firm
IDC.

“Tony Picardie, IDC senior vice president of worldwide software,
said that between 2000 and 2001, Linux will become the second most
popular operating system for servers after Microsoft?s Windows
2000.”

“Currently Microsoft out ships everything, but Linux will become
second most popular between 2000 and 2001. And this is our
prediction only from users we can track, not from independent
downloads,” said Picardie.”
