Wall Street & Technology Online: Novell Adds MySQL Open-Source Database To Netware

“Novell on Monday said it will ship a licensed version of the
open-source MySQL database with every version of Netware, giving
users of Netware access to the same development tools and apps that
run on the Linux platform.

“Novell now has Netware-native versions of not only MySQL but
also the Apache Web server and PHP development platform. Those
tools, when run on the Linux platform, go by the moniker ‘LAMP’ and
offer an alternative Web applications platform to both Java and
Microsoft’s .Net. For Novell, ‘NAMP’–nor Netware plus Apache,
MySQL, and PHP–offers a way to keep its developers from jumping
over to Linux, said Kris Magnusson, chair of Novell’s open-source
review board…”
