Quoth John C. Dvorak in his Linux-related prediction for the
year:
“Linux will become user-friendly and emerge as a true
desktop operating system competing with those of Microsoft and
Apple. But the interface will go in the direction of the Macintosh,
not Windows, once cross-compilers appear on the market and people
discover that Apple’s new Unix-based kernel makes porting from Mac
to Linux easier than porting from Windows to Linux. These
cross-compilers will appear magically, but will turn out to have
been waiting in the wings.”
