“The development phase of the next Linux kernel started with a
bang this weekend when some 60 open-source developers and core
kernel hackers attended the Linux 2.5 Kernel Summit to discuss the
way forward for the operating system.”
“Attendees of the San Jose, Calif., gathering, including Linus
Torvalds, the “father” of Linux, heard a range of presentations
about what should be included in the 2.5 kernel and updates on
projects under way to achieve this.”
“Now that the 2.4 kernel — released in early January — has
been largely stabilized, the team is ready to start on the 2.5
development tree. Patches and bug fixes for the 2.4 kernel will
continue to be released as 2.4.x versions.”
