vanished, Java’s two strongest supporters, Sun and IBM, are engaged
in a behind-the-scenes war of nerves that could lead to a schism
that nobody wants.

“Sun’s Embedded Java just lost out on a seven-year, multimillion
dollar contract with Delphi Automotive Systems, a leading supplier
of mobile computerized car options, which chose Hewlett-Packard’s
Java look-alike, Chai.’

“And Java’s much-ballyhooed networking complement, Jini, is
essentially missing in action.”

“Other than that, everything’s fine.”
