“The European Commission’s decision on Monday to reject demands
to rewrite the Computer Implemented Inventions Directive could
seriously damage open source software development in Europe,
according to a legal expert.

“Jeremy Mark Malcolm, an information technology lawyer
specialising in Internet-related law and speaker at the forthcoming
Linux conference in Canberra, told ZDNet UK sister site ZDNet
Australia that patent laws could damage the European open source
development community…”
