“Sun Microsystems quietly reorganised late Thursday night,
sending vice presidents Jon Kannegaard and Jim Mitchell to Sun Labs
to develop advanced technologies for Java and Jini.”

“Kannegaard was in charge of Sun’s Java Software division, while
Mitchell was in charge of Sun’s Java standardisation efforts. Sun
is currently withholding its Java specification from the
Europe-based industry association ECMA, which is now trying to
standardise Java without Sun.”

“Sun Software President Pat Sueltz has named former IBM
executive David Gee as vice president of Java marketing and former
Solaris vice president Rich Green as VP of a new Java Software
Development Group. Former Consumer and Embedded head Mike Clary is
in charge of all Sun software marketing and business development;
former vice president of marketing George Paolini is in charge of a
Java Community Development Group to work with partners; and Sun
Fellow Rob Gingell is now CTO for Sun Software Products and
Platforms. Mitchell will head Sun Labs, while Kannegaard will act
as liaison between the labs and Sun’s product groups.”
