“I believed that for it to grow, a company would have to support
this software. So I and several others started Cygnus in 1989, and
we built a model around enhancing, developing, and supporting open
source software and making it available to companies.”

“In the Linux world, you have the technical free market–
different programmers can try different ideas, and the best ones
win based on what the user says. So Linux creates a best of breed
operating system with everyone in the world working together.”

“In 10 years, open source will be broadly applied. To give a
geopolitical analogy: The adoption rate of open software is a lot
like the adoption rate of democracy. It’s not yet 100 percent, but
it’s compelling, it’s rewarding, and it’s the best way to do
it.”
