API…announced it has contributed Alpha-based systems to
Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) for the Pants Application
Node Transparency System (PANTS) in support of on-going Alpha Linux
development.
This contribution helps foster education and
development of the Alpha platform at the university level.”

“API’s work in the research community and on special research
projects reinforces that Alpha is the leading platform for high
performance computing. Alpha systems are used throughout the
research industry and are part of a current cooperative venture of
the Los Alamos National Laboratory Center for Nonlinear Studies and
Theoretical Division. As an example, the 140-node Beowulf cluster
project named Avalon is being utilized as a general-purpose
supercomputer for applications ranging from astrophysics to
molecular dynamics, which continues Alpha’s leadership in this
market.”

“API is emerging as a major supporter of Linux development. We
were drawn to them because of their dedication to high-performance
technical computing and emphasis on the development of Beowulf
clustering technology,” said David Finkel, professor in the
computer science department at WPI. “This is an exciting time in
the evolution of the Linux operating system and API’s focus on
Alpha Linux allows users with high-performance needs to take
advantage of their technology.”
