“BMC Software Inc. (Nasdaq:BMCS) today announced that it has
developed the industry’s first systems management solution on
Linux(TM) for S/390. Working in partnership with IBM, BMC
Software has extended its flagship PATROL(R) product line to
monitor and manage the Linux for S/390 platform.
To meet
customer needs in rapidly deploying Linux and e-business
applications on S/390, BMC Software also will offer world class
professional services support for Linux for S/390 system and
application implementation. The announcement was made in
conjunction with IBM’s Linux for S/390 strategy at IBM’s VISTA
International Conference.”

“It’s simply not enough to view Linux for S/390 as an isolated
operating system. The ultimate success of Linux for S/390 will be
driven by its ability to interact with OS/390 applications —
that’s where the data is. Given our existing S/390 expertise and
solutions, BMC is uniquely positioned to deliver a complete S/390
application management solution,” says Calvin Guidry, vice
president and general manager for S/390 Service Management.”

“BMC Software has a demonstrated history of commitment to the
S/390 platform. Linux for S/390 support further demonstrates BMC’s
commitment to S/390 and we are pleased with the solutions BMC will
offer to our mutual customers,” stated Chris Rohrbach, lead
designer for IBM’s Linux for S/390 project.”
