“Bull announced today in North America that it has successfully
ported and run the 64-bit UNIX operating system from Project
Monterey (code-named Monterey/64) on an 8-way Intel Itanium
processor-based server, thereby achieving an industry first and
clearly positioning itself as a market leader for scalability and
performance in the IA-64 arena. Project Monterey is a major UNIX
operating system initiative led by IBM, Intel and SCO and supported
by key OEMs, such as Bull, to extend the enterprise strengths of
AIX to the Intel IA-64 architecture.”

“As one of the leading members of the Monterey OEM council, Bull
has recently ported and run Monterey/64 on an 8-way Itanium(TM)
server. This has been achieved by Bull’s R&D teams in France.
This breakthrough achievement clearly demonstrates Bull’s market
leadership in developing and integrating scalable server
infrastructures for the most demanding e-business customer
environments.”

“This announcement further underscores Bull’s commitment to the
IA-64 platform. Bull is actively engaged in a technology
co-operation with Intel to bring to market highly reliable and
scalable servers for the Itanium processor and its successors,
starting in the timeframe of the availability of Itanium
processors. Bull’s forthcoming range of IA-64 servers will
support Monterey/64, the 64-bit version of Windows 2000 and 64-bit
Linux.”
