The most popular deployment type for OpenStack is as an on-premises private cloud, according the recent OpenStack user survey, which is based on 669 responses from cloud operators and users. The OpenStack platform provides a framework that enables multiple underlying technology options for compute, storage and networking capabilities.
The study also found that the Kernel-based Virtual Machine (KVM) open-source technology is the most widely deployed virtualization hypervisor.
