“Knox Software Corp., a Southern Calif.-based supplier of
network backup software, and SuSE Linux, the international
technology leader and solution provider in open source operating
system (OS) software, jointly announced today that SuSE Linux 6.3
and 6.4 are certified by Knox Software as compatible OS platforms
for Knox’s new database backup software for Oracle on Linux. SuSE
is now authorized to resell and support Arkeia for Oracle RMAN, the
only database backup application tested by Oracle Corp. today to
provide hot backup and restore capabilities for Oracle on Linux.
Knox awarded SuSE the authorization upon completion of a suite of
compatibility tests covering installation, configuration and
performance of the software under SuSE Linux 6.3 and 6.4.”

“Arkeia is the perfect match for our technological expertise,”
comments Volker Wiegand, CEO of SuSE Inc. “Arkeia and SuSE already
have a close relationship in Europe and SuSE is Arkeia’s top
selling backup partner. We are happy to expand this relationship
all over the US, now that SuSE is certified for both Arkeia and
Oracle.”

“Arkeia for Oracle RMAN provides a seamless solution for
backing up Oracle databases (versions 8.1.6 or later) on Linux.
Through tight integration with Oracle’s RMAN data management API,
the software enables database administrators to incrementally
backup or restore Oracle databases while leaving mission-critical
production servers online.
Combined with the proven
reliability and quality of SuSE Linux, the two products enable
database administrators to deploy cost-effective, high performance
Oracle backup functionality on a network without concern for
undiscovered library or kernel incompatibilities.”
