“The AIX Toolbox for Linux Applications is a set of free
software tools that can be used to write programs for both Linux
and AIX Version 4.3.3. The toolbox includes commonly used
open-source applications and tools such as tar, Samba, the Bash2
system shell, the KDE and GNOME desktops and enlightenment and
sawfish windows managers. The toolkit also includes the Red Hat
Package Management system (RPM) to install and organize open source
software on AIX. The various tools in the kit are freely available
and can be downloaded individually.”

“The toolbox could be useful to Linux-based enterprises that
want to integrate AIX into their networks. Open-source programmers
could recompile custom-built enterprise Linux applications to run
on AIX’s 64-bit platform to take advantage of AIX’s high
scalability (on the scalable RS/6000 hardware platform).
Applications written using the toolbox can run on both Linux
and AIX, allowing the two platforms to interoperate more
seamlessly.”
