SourceForge/Linux on Large Systems: Powering the Data Center of Tomorrow

“SourceForge.net’s Linux on Large Systems Foundry
brings together many projects dedicated to improving support for
Linux on large, multiprocessor systems. Participating projects draw
in developers from large corporations, from academic research
groups, from independent industry groups like the Open Source
Development Lab, to independent Open Source developers.

Among the foundry projects are a group of projects motivated by
the impending release of Intel’s next Itanium processor (McKinley),
and the associated 82870 chipset from Intel, and similar chipsets
from OEMs. These projects are referred to collectively as the Atlas
project.

Atlas brings together a strong group of hardware and systems
companies, including Bull, HP, IBM, Intel, NEC, and SGI, with Linux
companies like TurboLinux, to build Linux support for
McKinley-based systems.”
