“Intel in the UK said that the biggest oil producer in the
world, Saudi Aramco, has ported its seismic data processing to 900
dual Pentium III 1.4GHz CPUs running Red Hat Linux 7.2, using IBM
dual servers. And IBM is expected to win more business for the
cluster, which will grow to a cluster of 2,000 dual systems by the
end of the year, said Intel.“The Saudi Arabian national oil company oversees a quarter of
the world’s oil reserves, said Intel, and collects seismic data for
analysis using computer intensive software called Prestack Time
Migration to make 2D and 3D images of oil and gas reserves…”
