ZDNet: Linux simulator for Itanium

Intel is hoping to fuel the development of Linux-based
applications for its upcoming 64bit Itanium processor, by posting a
Linux simulator free on the Web.

“The IA-64 Linux Simulator was developed by Hewlett-Packard to
let developers emulate a Linux-based Itanium-powered machine using
systems running existing 32bit Pentium processors.”

“The release of the development kit to the open-source community
is the latest in a series of high-profile steps that Intel has
taken to assure software support for its newest chip, which
features an HP-developed architecture called Explicitly Parallel
Instruction Computing (Epic).”
