“GamePC has announced today that they are offering the option of
installing Red Hat Linux 6.1 Deluxe as an operating system onto
it’s high-performance machines.”
“Phil Chiang, Vice-President of GamePC states, “Our
customers have been requesting the Linux operating system for quite
a long while. While Linux is not for everyone, it is a robust and
extremely stable alternative to the Windows platform. The decision
to offer Linux falls right in line with our companies policy of
offering our customers the largest selection of high-quality
components to build their systems with.“
“Users can have GamePC install Linux onto their custom-built
machines as the only operating system or choose to have a dual-boot
configuration with either Windows 98 or Windows NT. While currently
there are not very many games available for the Linux platform,
GamePC’s dual boot options allow for users to have the capabilities
of Linux, while still allowing the user to play games in the
Windows OS. GamePC is also looking into carrying several other
Linux distributions, such as Caldera and Debian, but have chosen
Red Hat to be the first thanks to its top-notch reputation and
software documentation.”
