BW: Synopsys and SGI Accelerate Electronic Design Verification On Linux

“Synopsys…and SGI…announced they have entered into a
strategic alliance to accelerate the performance and availability
of electronic design verification tools for the Linux(R) operating
system (OS) running on Intel(R) Architecture-based computer
systems. The companies will focus on performance tuning of
Synopsys’ verification tools, including the VCS(TM) Verilog
simulator, and will encourage other electronic design automation
(EDA) vendors to provide related tools on the Linux platform.

The companies are jointly demonstrating the first results of this
effort at the SC99 conference.”

“Linux is an Open Source OS that includes true multitasking,
virtual memory, shared libraries, demand loading, proper memory
management and other features that are consistent with UNIX(R)
operating systems. Recent independent market research indicates
that Linux is the fastest growing operating system in the
world.”

“Synopsys was the first major EDA company to offer
high-performance Verilog simulation and code coverage tools on
Linux. SGI has been a major force in advancing the features and
capabilities of the Linux OS and has contributed key technologies
to further its scalability, reliability and performance.
Specifically, SGI is working with the Open Source community to
contribute its journaled file system, XFS(TM), as well as
multiprocessing and interoperability technologies.”
