CMP Net: Red Hat Basks In LinuxWorld Glow

“LinuxWorld is over, but the week after has turned out to be
more afterglow than hangover.”

“New developments around the open source version of Unix keep
coming. Red Hat Software on Tuesday announced that it had received
an investment from Compaq, IBM, Novell, and Oracle. These companies
join Intel and Netscape as minority equity partners in the company,
which is the leading seller of the Linux operating system.
Financial terms were not disclosed.”

“Dell Computer may actually go a step further. CEO Michael Dell
told the Los Angeles Times in an interview printed Monday that Dell
would soon offer Linux as a choice to individuals who buy PCs off
Dell’s website.”
