Community Digest: September 19, 2002

As part of our ongoing committment to the Linux and Open Source
community at large, Linux Today is pleased to announce the start of
a new feature: the Community Digest.

Like the Release Digest, the Community Digest is an effort to
get news and information out that might not otherwise be posted on
Linux Today. These are informative bits on events and community
happenings from around the planet, which sometimes get “bumped”

To correct this, and to help organizations which might not
otherwise get their announcements out, we offer the Community

Anyone who has a organizational activity–from an installfest,
to an FSF seminar, to the start of a new LUG, is invited to
contribute their information for nightly posting on Linux Today. Or
simply point us to a site that does have the

There are just three small caveats:

  • Please remember to have the basics (who, what, when, and
  • Please note that announcements for ongoing events (like monthly
LUG meetings) will only appear once, on the day they were
  • All events must be received by 1900 GMT and will
normally be posted at 0500 GMT (which is local midnight
    for Linux Today year-round).

If you wish to decline viewing this new feature, feel free to
filter out the new “Events” category in your custom Linux Today

Events will be sorted by nation, region (state/province), city,
and date.

Since the success of the Release Digest feature, it is my hope
that this Community Digest feature will be just as useful to the
ever-growing Linux Today readership.
