Computer Bits: Create your own Microsoft-free world

get to play with the newest coolest high-tech toys. So there.) No
matter what we write about Microsoft, strong passions are evoked.
“Quit picking on poor little Bill Gates, he came up the hard way:
affluent family, exclusive private schools, Harvard dropout.”
“Microsoft is the devil, you must warn the world!” “You communists,
if it were not for Microsoft we would be speaking Russian.” etc.
etc.”

“One thing is indisputable: Microsoft’s influence on personal
computers and business computing is far-reaching. They have not yet
penetrated the high-end UNIX market, that elite world where
computers must run 24 x 7 and serve millions of users with no
excuses. The only thing Microsoft produces in greater abundance
than software is excuses. But from home users to medium-duty
business networking users, their influence is nearly
inescapable.”

Just for fun, I assembled a 100% Microsoft-free computer.
Actually, given how intertwined the high-tech universe is, I am not
sure about that figure. Could be some Microsoft code in there
somewhere. Regardless, this is what I came up with….
