“Tools and middleware vendor Inprise Corp. last week said the
next version of its database, Interbase 6, will support both Linux
and Sun Microsystems Inc.’s Solaris operating systems. The software
so far supports only Microsoft Corp.’s Windows and Novell Inc.’s
NetWare operating systems.”
“In the spirit of Linux and what the open-source community
stands for, the company also plans to open the Interbase source
code, executives said.”
“Inprise will be taking a leadership role in the open-source
movement by releasing Interbase 6 under an open-source
license,” said Dale Fuller, interim chief executive and
president of Inprise, which acquired Interbase.”
