“Linux hit the operating-system market like a cold slap in
the face, catching the imagination not only of the “ABM”
(anybody but Microsoft) crowd, but also of mainstream vendors such
as IBM Corp., Oracle Corp., Informix Corp. and Sybase Inc. that
actively support, or have promised to support, the new operating
system.”
“VARs have reservations about Linux and its chances for success
in small- and midsize-company markets, but recent CRN survey data
has shown more resellers are taking a positive view. In October, 46
percent of VARs said Linux would be a viable alternative to Windows
in small- and midsize-company markets, up from 45 percent in August
and 44 percent in April, the first month for which data is
available.”
“Another 35 percent of VARs surveyed in October said Linux will
not be a viable Windows alternative, down slightly from April. The
remaining respondents were not sure.”
