CRN: Torvalds: Next Linux Now Predicted For Summer

“Linus Torvalds, creator of the Linux operating system, told
a LinuxWorld audience that the next release of the open-source
operating system kernel has slipped by several months.”

“However, the Linux 2.4 kernel should be available for
commercial release this summer, he said.”

“We’re hoping to get 2.4 released in a few months,” Torvalds
said to a friendly and enthusiastic conference audience. “New code
will make 2.4 a much better kernel in many ways.”

“Torvalds said upon leaving the conference, held at the Jacob
Javits Convention Center in New York, that he would most likely
return to California and “release what will be a ‘pre 2.4’ ” for
review and betalike improvements.”

“Basically, all of it is there right now,” Torvalds said.”
