“Things have changed-and only in a month. Winmodems are now
more widely supported with the drivers from Linmodems.org, the
Voodoo5 drivers are on the horizon, NVidia has released another
series of reference drivers, Matrox is planning G450 support for
Linux at its release.”
“Less than a year ago, very little was on the horizon for Linux.
Hardware manufacturers were not convinced Linux would bring them a
return on their investment in drivers. The open source community
built some excellent drivers over this last year which may have not
been as good as their Windows counterparts, but they were certainly
functional and showed the corporations that people use Linux and
people use their products on Linux.”
“With new technologies like XFree86 4.0, ATA-100 support and KDE
2.0 on the horizon, Linux is starting to look more and more a
next-generation operating system every day. While all of these
technologies have not fully developed, there can be a strong case
for and against Linux’s lack of maturity.”
