Mandrake has broken ground in the past, but are they
keeping up with their once relentless pace? We give Mandrake’s
latest release, 7.1 the complete run-through and see if it lives up
to Mandrake’s high standards.

“Less than two years ago a little known Linux distribution hit
the market with high-hopes. Two years later, MandrakeSoft makes one
of the finest Linux distributions around-or dare I say one of the
finest operating systems around.”

“That once unknown Linux distribution is Mandrake. With
MandrakeSoft?s latest release, 7.1, they look to polish up on some
things that looked a little rough on 7.0 and even add a whole slew
of new features. Features such as Webmin, a smoother installation,
a brand-new new menu system, ATA/66, and much more.”

“With Linux distributions popping up everywhere, it?s getting
harder and harder to find quality. Fear not, because here it is.
Mandrake combines the sleek desktop of KDE and Gnome with many
user-friendly features often called “The Mandrake Touch.” This
touch includes an entire administration suite called DrakConf which
includes such applications as KPackage, RPM Drake, Hard Drake,
System Services, Linuxconf, Network Configuration (via Linuxconf),
Drak Font and many more. “The Touch” also includes the ability to
seemlessly morph into a superuser with a mere click of a mouse and
a few keystrokes. This makes the conversion from traditional
mainstream operating systems to Linux much easier.”
