First off, Linux Today wants to remind readers that we will be
off on Monday, May 26, observing the U.S. Memorial Day holiday, so
look for the slower weekend mode at the start of next week.
I also wanted to take this opportunity to address some
housekeeping issues here at Linux Today. Our readership numbers
have exploded in recent months, and we have a lot of new readers
visiting our pages asking many questions.
Since the redesign this winter, we have received several
comments about bugs and design flaws in the site. I would like to
thank every one who took the time to submit these reports, and I
think we’re at a point where things are pretty much smoothed out.
(Crosses his fingers for luck.) If you do find any more
goofs, always feel free to let me know.
Talkbacks, always a source of fun with the site, have been
questioned by newcomers, too. Remember, see the Talkback
Policy page if you have any concerns. The rule of thumb has
always been this: if you troll, go out of your way to flame, or
just use heavy obscenities, you’re not going to see your talkback
posted.
Finally, there have been some comments regarding our coverage of
SCO vs. IBM. There has been a lot of news generated about this
lawsuit, mostly from SCO, which seems to be running a deliberate
campaign to keep themselves in the attention of the tech community.
Not a day has gone by, it seems, without some news media
organization posting a new angle on the controversy, and I do not
expect it to abate any time soon.
I have received several messages regarding coverage of this
event, the majority saying that we are lending too much time and
space to this pre-trial hooplah. Believe me, I am well aware that
there are many spin machines churning right now and I am making a
concerted effort not to run every single article on this
subject.
Linux Today will continue its policy of trying to balance
complete coverage without overdoing it for this and any other major
event in the Linux and Open Source community. To this end, I will
filter out redundant coverage and also try to group stories about a
particular event or issue close to each other on the newsfeed so
the topic will not dominate an entire daily news cycle.
In the meantime, for those of you who will be on holiday this
weekend, have a safe and enjoyable time as you interface with the
Mat–er, real world. For the rest of you, may your next holiday
come soon and you have a chance to relax.
